Driver Arrested After Fatal Hit-and-Run in Nashville

Rai Eugen Padgett was arrested by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department (MNPD) in connection with the death of Oluwalayomi Fadero, a 23-year-old Nigerian graduate from Fisk University. The incident occurred on a Friday when Padgett allegedly stole a vehicle and fled from police.

After a high-speed chase reaching speeds of 80 miles per hour, Padgett collided with Fadero's vehicle at the intersection of Murfreesboro Pike and Hickory Wood Drive, pushing it approximately 100 yards into a ditch. Fadero was pronounced dead at the scene.

Padgett, who was on parole at the time of the incident, faces charges of criminal homicide. The community mourns Fadero's death, with her former professor, Janet Walsh, highlighting her kindness and commitment to volunteer work.

A makeshift memorial has been set up at the crash site, and a GoFundMe account has been created to support Fadero's family with burial expenses, raising $15,000 at the time of the report.
