DSS Arrests Additional Suspects in Professor Kidnapping

The Department of State Services (DSS) arrested three more suspects believed to be part of the kidnapping ring that abducted Professor Samuel Avengbe Okunsebor, the dean of agriculture at Nasarawa State University. The professor was kidnapped on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, in Mile Uku, a border community between Lafia and Nasarawa-Eggon LGAs.

Two suspects were apprehended at the time of the incident. On Friday night, DSS operatives arrested the three additional suspects at a local brothel along the Lafia–Makurdi highway.

The suspects were identified as 25-year-old Yakubu Abubakar (aka Black/Starboy) from the Doemak tribe in Plateau State, 37-year-old Usman Abubakar Mairiga, and 27-year-old Sale Babauro Abubakar, who are of Hausa and Fulani descent, respectively. The suspects are currently in custody of the State Command for further investigations, following a valid detention warrant issued by a magistrate’s court.
