DSS Arrests Three More Suspects in Professor Kidnapping

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) arrested three more suspects connected to the kidnapping of Professor Samuel Avengbe Okunsebor, the Dean of Agriculture at Nasarawa State University. The arrests took place on Friday night at a local brothel along the Mararraban Akunza axis of the Lafia–Makurdi highway.
Professor Okunsebor was abducted by gunmen in the early hours of Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Mile Uku, a border community between Lafia and Nasarawa-Eggon Local Government Areas of Nasarawa State, and was rescued two days later by DSS operatives. The newly arrested suspects are identified as 25-year-old Yakubu Abubakar, also known as Black or Starboy, 37-year-old Usman Abubakar Mairiga, and 27-year-old Sale Babauro Abubakar.
Mairiga is of Hausa descent, while Sale Babauro Abubakar is Fulani. They are currently detained at the DSS State Command for further investigation, following a warrant obtained from a magistrate’s court.
This brings the total number of suspects arrested in connection with the kidnapping to five, with investigations ongoing.
