Retired DSS Officer Remanded for Alleged IPOB Support

Nwaogu Ihechimere Ezeakolam, a retired officer of the Department of State Services (DSS), has been ordered to be remanded at Kuje Correctional Centre by the Federal High Court in Abuja. He faces four counts of charges related to supporting the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB).

The charges include joining IPOB, posting supportive messages on social media, and engaging in activities that could induce public support for the group. The DSS alleges that Ezeakolam provided moral assistance and disseminated terrorist information via the internet and social media platforms.

The charges are in violation of the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, specifically Sections 13, 25, and 26, as well as Section 18 of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015. Ezeakolam pleaded not guilty to all charges before Justice Muhammed Umar, who adjourned the case until October 29 for trial commencement.
