DSS Takes Over Obaseki Abduction Probe as Lawyers Label Incident Terrorism

The DSS has officially assumed control of the investigation into the violent attack and abduction of Dr. Obaseki in Benin City, Edo State.

Femi Falana SAN, Obaseki's lead counsel, disclosed that the DSS headquarters in Abuja has taken charge of the probe due to the gravity and implications of the alleged crime. The incident, which occurred on December 28, 2025, involved a coordinated terrorist operation, leading to widespread outrage on social media and among civil society groups.

Multiple petitions have been submitted to various security agencies and oversight bodies, alleging terrorism-related activities and obstruction of justice. Obaseki's legal team has initiated civil proceedings in Nigerian courts to seek judicial remedies and hold accountable those involved in the abduction.

Falana emphasized that the legal actions are complementary to ongoing security investigations and are aimed at ensuring justice, rule of law, and public accountability.
