APC and Critics Clash Over Ebonyi Waste Management Issues

In Ebonyi State, a conflict arose between the All Progressives Congress (APC) and social media critics over waste evacuation and environmental sanitation issues. Mr.

Echefo William publicly criticized the state’s deteriorating sanitation situation, attributing blame to the contractors responsible for waste management. Mr.

Victor Chukwu, representing the APC, distanced the party from the allegations, asserting that the responsibility for waste evacuation lies with the contractors engaged by the Ebonyi State Ministry of Environment. Chief Stanlei Okoro Emegha, the APC state chairman, and Mr.

Polycarp Obinna Alegu provided clarifications regarding the waste management structure, which divides Abakaliki into 18 sanitation zones. They emphasized that the ministry employs ad hoc personnel to monitor sanitation and that contractors have been failing to perform their duties.

Governor Francis Nwifuru has been urged to ensure that contractors improve their performance, while the APC stressed that the public must also comply with environmental laws to alleviate the sanitation challenges.
