Minister Alausa Urges Data Use at ECAN Education Summit

During the ECAN 2026 Annual Education Summit held in Abuja, Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, challenged education correspondents across Nigeria to leverage available educational data to hold state governments accountable for enhancing learning outcomes and delivering quality education.

He emphasized the importance of using credible data to interrogate government policies and highlighted the need for journalists to access reliable educational data to question gaps in infrastructure and teacher availability. Alausa noted that nearly 25 million children are currently out of primary school, with significant dropout rates from primary to junior secondary school.

He discussed the reforms introduced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration, which focus on six priority areas, including technical vocational education and training (TVET) and strengthening educational governance. Alausa also mentioned that Nigeria has seen an increase in the number of universities ranked among the world's top 1,000 institutions, reflecting the positive impact of these reforms.
