Driver Dies in Crash During Alleged Police Chase in Edo

On Thursday, a driver was reportedly killed in a road accident on Sapele Road in Benin City, Edo State, following an alleged police pursuit involving a patrol vehicle from the Ologbo Police Division. Eyewitnesses indicated that a Toyota Sienna patrol vehicle branded “Nigerian Police Force, Ologbo Division” was chasing another vehicle shortly before the fatal crash occurred.

A witness, who requested anonymity, stated that a seven-passenger commercial mini bus became involved in the incident and plunged into a flooded drainage, resulting in the driver's death. The witness alleged that the police chase triggered the sequence of events leading to the crash, although the exact circumstances surrounding the accident could not be independently verified.

A video of the incident showed emergency responders and residents rushing to the scene to rescue passengers from the submerged mini bus.
