Police Officers Flee as Bus Crashes at Edo Checkpoint

On a weekend, police officers conducting a stop-and-search operation along the Benin-Auchi expressway in Benin City, Edo State, were forced to flee when a commercial red Mitsubishi bus suffered brake failure. The bus approached the checkpoint at high speed and collided with a mini bus and another vehicle near the DVD Filling Station, close to Kilimanjaro.

Eyewitness Godswill Fella reported that the officers, who were conducting routine checks, quickly recognized the danger and ran away from the path of the bus. The bus's brake failure left the driver unable to control the vehicle, creating a frightening scene for motorists, residents, and passersby.

Another eyewitness, Nelson Ayemere, described the incident as alarming, noting that people hurriedly moved away to avoid being hit. Fortunately, no deaths were recorded, but some individuals sustained injuries and were transported to a medical facility for treatment.
