Edo Governor's Aide Bars Davido From Performing in State

Apostle Kassy Chukwu, aide to Governor Monday Okpebholo, has declared the Afrobeats star unwelcome in Edo for the remainder of the administration's tenure.

A senior official in Edo State's government has issued a performance ban against Nigerian music star Davido, escalating a political dispute between the singer and Governor Monday Okpebholo. Apostle Kassy Chukwu, who serves as Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media to the governor, made the declaration in a video released on Thursday through Peniel TV International in Benin City.

The conflict stems from the August governorship election in Osun State. Governor Okpebholo publicly criticized Osun's sitting governor, Ademola Adeleke—Davido's uncle—during campaign activities.

Davido subsequently made remarks critical of Okpebholo in response to this attack on his relative. When asked to apologize for his comments, the singer refused, according to reports across the sources.

Chukwu characterized Davido's statements as disrespectful to Okpebholo and his family. Beyond the performance restriction, the aide cautioned that the singer could encounter a hostile reception if he were to visit Edo State, suggesting potential resistance from residents.

The ban extends for the full duration of Okpebholo's gubernatorial tenure. Neither Davido nor his representatives have publicly responded to the restriction as of the time these reports were filed.

The dispute represents an unusual intersection of entertainment, family politics, and state-level governance in Nigeria's multi-party democratic system.
