Edo Woman Arrested for N2 Million Adoption Scam

Grace Uwadia was arrested by the Edo State Police Command for allegedly orchestrating a N2 million adoption scam linked to her operation of an illegal orphanage in Owan East Local Government Area. The arrest was confirmed by Eugenia Abdallah, a senior official at the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, on Thursday.

The investigation was prompted by a formal complaint from Mondai Akpaduma, who reported irregularities in the adoption process. Akpaduma claimed to have paid N250,000 as a processing fee, which was later increased to N2 million, raising suspicions.

Ministry officials conducted an internal investigation that revealed documents presented by Akpaduma were fraudulent and not from the Ministry. Although local government staff were implicated, none were arrested during the operation as they were reportedly absent during the Ministry's visit.

The Edo State Police Command is continuing investigations to apprehend all individuals connected to the illegal operations.
