Edo State Elects 18 Chairmen, 192 Councillors in Polls

On Monday, the Edo State Independent Electoral Commission (EDSIEC) presented certificates of return to 18 newly elected local government chairmen and 192 councillors in a ceremony held in Benin City. EDSIEC Chairman Hon.

Jonathan Aifuobhokhan congratulated the elected officials and urged them to uphold democratic principles, govern with integrity, and prioritize the welfare of the people above personal interests. He commended the Edo State government, security agencies, political parties, civil society organizations, traditional and religious leaders, and the media for their roles in ensuring a peaceful and credible electoral process.

Gabriel Iduseri, the chairman of Oredo Local Government Council, described the elections as free, fair, and transparent, commending EDSIEC for their efforts. He also pledged that the council chairmen would align with Governor Godwin Obaseki's agenda to deliver dividends of democracy at the grassroots level.
