Makinde Reveals APC Warning Against 2027 Presidential Bid

Oyo State Governor Engr. Seyi Makinde disclosed that an unnamed chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) warned him on June 1, 2025, not to contest against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

The day after this warning, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) requested copies of all Oyo State government contracts and payments to contractors from 2021, without specifying any contractor, company, transaction, or alleged offence. In response, the Oyo State Government sought judicial interpretation regarding the EFCC's broad request.

The Federal High Court in Ibadan ruled that while the EFCC has the constitutional power to investigate financial infractions, such powers must be exercised in accordance with the Constitution and the Rule of Law. The court described the EFCC's request as speculative and a fishing expedition, emphasizing that requests for information must relate to specific allegations.

Makinde stated his administration is open to scrutiny but warned against broad investigations lacking evidence.
