EFCC Condemns Operatives' Lawlessness at UUTH

On May 12, 2023, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) intervened in a case of lawlessness by its operatives at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH) in Akwa Ibom State. EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede expressed shame over the conduct of the operatives, who reportedly invaded the hospital, assaulted staff and patients, and acted in a violent manner during odd hours.

The Deputy Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee at UUTH, Professor Eyo Ekp, confirmed that three staff members were assaulted during the incident. Following public outrage, Olukoyede issued a public apology and directed an investigation into the matter, promising sanctions against any operatives found culpable.

The EFCC aims to ensure that its operatives conduct their duties in a civil manner moving forward.
