13 Political Parties Sign Peace Accord in Ekiti State

On June 20, 2026, thirteen political parties in Ekiti State signed a Peace Accord to ensure a peaceful electoral process in the upcoming gubernatorial elections. The event was attended by Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, who reaffirmed the state's commitment to maintaining its tradition of peaceful elections.

The accord was facilitated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the National Peace Committee (NPC), aiming to promote issue-based campaigns while discouraging violence and strengthening voter confidence in the electoral process. INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan urged political parties to move beyond mere symbolic endorsements and to uphold their commitments as outlined in the accord.

He noted that the Peace Accord should not just remain a document but must reflect actionable commitments. INEC plans to replicate the lessons learned from managing the 2025 Anambra governorship elections in preparation for the Ekiti polls, which will involve deploying resources across the state's 16 local government areas and 2,445 polling units, with 1,059,360 registered voters eligible to participate.
