NCF Advances Climate Resilience in Bayelsa Communities

The Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF), with support from the Ford Foundation, is advancing climate-smart agriculture and forest restoration in Bayelsa State, targeting communities such as Idema, Obeduma, and Eboh. The initiative aims to strengthen resilience, improve livelihoods, and promote biodiversity conservation.
Mr. Shittu Usman, the project officer, emphasized the importance of community-led climate resilience, combining livelihood support with environmental conservation.
The program involves training 100 community members in climate-smart agricultural practices, including sustainable land preparation and crop diversification. Additionally, 40 women are being trained in vegetable gardening techniques to enhance food security and household income.
Youth engagement is also a focus, with training in forest tree nursery management leading to the successful raising of 40,000 tree seedlings for future planting. Dr.
Joseph Onoja, the Director General of NCF, stressed the significance of equipping local communities with knowledge and tools for meaningful participation in conservation efforts.
