APC Lawmaker Calls for Enforcement of Electoral Act Provisions

Kolawole Akinlayo, representing Moba/Ilejemeje/Ido Osi Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has urged the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to strictly enforce the provisions of the Electoral Act 2026 concerning party primaries. Akinlayo's call follows the declaration of Kunle Ibrahim as the winner of the May 16 primary election, which he argues is invalid due to Ibrahim's alleged violation of Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act.

This section prohibits political appointees from participating in party primaries. Akinlayo emphasized that Ibrahim's continued salary receipt as a special assistant to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation contravenes the law.

He also raised concerns about widespread irregularities during the primaries, including voter suppression and inflated votes. Akinlayo has called for the APC National Assembly Appeal Committee to nullify the primary results and conduct fresh elections involving qualified aspirants, as this is the first significant legal challenge within the APC ahead of the 2027 general elections.
