IG Tunji Disu Declares End to Police Impunity in Nigeria

During an official visit to the Nigeria Police Force command in Benin, Edo State, Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu announced the end of the era of impunity within the police. He urged police personnel to actively participate in the reforms and not to carry them out alone.

Disu promised to upgrade the traffic warden unit and maintain a complaints office to address issues within the force. He referenced a recent incident where a police officer allegedly shot a civilian who was not resisting arrest, emphasizing the need for accountability.

Disu also called for support from the Edo State Commissioner of Police, Mondai Agbonika, to enhance logistics and tactics for personnel in the area. He highlighted the importance of high visibility policing and intelligence-driven operations to combat crime in identified hotspots within the state.
