Former Kogi Commissioner Calls for Power Shift to Kogi West

Dr. Tom Ohikere, the former Kogi State Commissioner for Information and convener of the Coalition for Better Kogi State, has called for the governorship to rotate to Kogi West in 2028, emphasizing the need for equity and fairness. He highlighted that Kogi East has held the governorship for 17 years and Kogi Central for 10 years, while Kogi West has not had any governorship since the state's creation.

Ohikere, who is from Kogi Central, stated that his support for this rotation is based on fairness rather than ethnic interests. He criticized the upcoming Kogi Unity and Power Rotation Summit scheduled for September 30 and October 1, 2026, claiming it is biased as it is organized by current government officials.

Instead, he announced that the Coalition for Better Kogi State would hold a “Kogi Equity, Unity and Rotation National Summit” in Abuja in the third week of October 2026, aiming to create a “Kogi Charter of Equity” for presentation to political parties and stakeholders.
