Former Intelligence Chief Albert Horsfall Dies at 84

Chief Albert Horsfall, a distinguished figure in Nigeria's intelligence community, passed away on September 9 at a Lagos hospital after a prolonged illness, at the age of 84. He served as the first Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and later as the Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS), now known as the Department of State Services (DSS), from 1990 to 1992.

His career was marked by exceptional service, intelligence expertise, and a commitment to Nigeria's security and development. Additionally, he was the pioneer Chairman of the Oil Minerals Producing Areas Development Commission (OMPADEC) and had previously served as a police officer and a foundation staff member of the National Security Organisation (NSO).

His death has been described as a significant loss to his family, Rivers State, the Ijaw Nation, and Nigeria as a whole. The Director-General of DSS, Mr. Ajayi, expressed condolences, acknowledging Horsfall's legacy and contributions to the nation.
