Lagos PDP Criticizes Wike Over Comments on Bode George

The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) issued a statement criticizing Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, for his remarks about High Chief Olabode George, the former Deputy National Chairman of the PDP. In a statement released on Saturday, spokesman Prince Dr Christopher Odianarewo accused Wike of distorting the party's history and downplaying George's contributions.

Wike had stated through his spokesman, Lere Olayinka, on August 8, 2026, that he had no regrets about opposing George's ambition for the national chairmanship of the PDP. Odianarewo contended that George voluntarily withdrew his ambition for the sake of fairness and party unity.

The Lagos PDP also questioned Wike's need to visit George after the party's convention if he considered him politically irrelevant. Furthermore, the party dismissed Wike's claims linking George to the PDP's electoral challenges in Lagos, asserting that the party has continued to secure elected positions since 1999.

The statement emphasized that political leadership transcends individual polling unit votes.
