Family Seeks Justice for Teacher Allegedly Killed by Soldiers

A family in Zamfara state is demanding justice following the alleged killing of 28-year-old teacher Zainab Abdullahi by soldiers on her way to work in Gusau. The incident occurred on Tuesday when eyewitnesses reported that a military vehicle struck the motorcycle Zainab was riding and then fled the scene.

Zainab, who taught at a girls’ school in Gusau, was buried the same day according to Islamic rites. Her brother, Aliyu Abdullahi, expressed the family's devastation, noting that Zainab was set to marry in a month.

He described the incident as an "inhumane act," stating that eyewitnesses claimed soldiers opened the door of their vehicle, hit Zainab's motorcycle, causing her to fall into a ditch where she died instantly. The family lacks the financial means to pursue legal action and is appealing for support from the National Human Rights Commission and The Muslim Lawyers Association, Zamfara state chapter.

Aliyu has called on the Army Command in Zamfara state and the state government to ensure those responsible are held accountable.
