Farmer Shot Dead in Cross River During Cocoa Farm Attack

On August 5, 2026, a farmer named Friday was shot dead in Cross River State, sustaining multiple gunshot wounds to the chest and abdomen from a close-range attack. The Cross River State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, reported that the suspected attackers are Patrick Otu Debang, James Osa G, and another individual known as “Pepsi,” all from Boje Community in Boki Local Government Area.

Madam Etta Maria Ado, the owner of Onisha Farm in Isibendeghe Community, filed a complaint at the Boki Police Station, alleging that the suspects had previously harassed her regarding activities on her cocoa farm. During the attack, two workers, Clinton Abang and Amobi Igwe, managed to escape and later informed Ado about the incident.

The police recovered Friday's body, which had multiple pellet wounds consistent with injuries from a locally made firearm. The body has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
