Gunmen Kill Farmer in Cross River Land Dispute

On July 4, 2026, gunmen killed farmer Nkeruwem Ikoh and injured others during a clash over land disputes in Erei South, Cross River State. Philip Obin, a special adviser to Governor Bassey Otu on digital economy, reported that the incident occurred around 3:00 PM when Ikoh and another farmer, Ukam Ajah Okpan, were attacked by unidentified armed men while working on their farmland near the Egbor community.

Following the attack, Ikoh succumbed to his injuries, while the second victim is currently receiving treatment. The bodies were taken to Uwanna Mortuary in Afikpo, Ebonyi State.

The Cross River State Police Command, represented by ASP Sundai Eitokpah, confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway to identify those responsible. Residents of the Urugbam and Egbor communities have been urged to remain calm and cooperate with the police during the investigation.
