Fayemi Identifies 5 Key Factors for Election Success

Kayode Fayemi, who served as the Governor of Ekiti State in two non-consecutive terms, revealed five critical "election gods" that politicians must satisfy to enhance their chances of winning elections in Nigeria. These include the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), security agencies, the judiciary, non-state security actors, and financial resources.

This insight was shared in a book titled "How To Win Elections in Nigeria," authored by media entrepreneur Seun Oloketuyi. Fayemi emphasized that winning elections requires more than voter support and a robust campaign; it necessitates understanding the political landscape and cultivating relationships with key political figures.

He recounted his political journey, highlighting the challenges he faced, including a violent political environment and the need to communicate effectively with various audiences. Fayemi also advised adopting party agents from smaller parties to assist at polling units and maintaining independent observer missions to navigate post-election disputes.
