Wike Vows to Support Only Tinubu Loyalists in FCT Polls

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, announced his intention to support candidates loyal to President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming area council elections in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on February 21, 2026. During a public event in Abuja marking the 60th birthday of Senator Sandi Onor, Wike emphasized that he would ensure that candidates who do not support Tinubu would not succeed in the elections.

He expressed total support for the President's leadership and policies. The elections will involve the selection of chairmen, vice chairmen, and councillors across 68 wards, with approximately 1.68 million registered voters eligible to participate.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will upload election results in real-time to enhance transparency. Additionally, the Federal High Court has barred the Labour Party from participating in the elections due to alleged irregularities in its nomination process.
