FCTA Warns Transport Operators to Use Approved Terminals

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has issued a warning to commercial transport operators in Abuja, instructing them to cease operations at illegal motor parks and roadside loading points. Mr Chinedum Elechi, the Mandate Secretary of the FCTA Transportation Secretariat, announced this directive during a news conference on Thursday.

He stated that all unauthorized loading points would be shut down, and non-compliant operators risk having their vehicles impounded. The FCTA has invested billions of naira in constructing modern bus terminals in Mabushi, Kugbo, and the Central Business District, which are intended to enhance the public transportation system and improve security.

Elechi emphasized that the relocation is crucial for reducing crimes and illegal activities associated with roadside operations. He noted that over 100 vehicles had previously been impounded during enforcement exercises, and many operators returned to illegal locations despite signing undertakings to comply.

The FCTA aims to partner with private firms to manage these terminals effectively.
