FEC Approves New Digital Postcode System for Nigeria

On Wednesday, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) approved the implementation of a new digital postcode system designed to enhance mail delivery efficiency across Nigeria. Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, disclosed this decision, which is part of a broader strategy outlined in the Federal Ministry's strategic blueprint.

The new alphanumeric postcode system will be developed in collaboration with the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), led by Tola Odeyemi. This initiative aims to introduce a modern geospatial intelligence address system that will improve accuracy in mail and parcel processing.

The system is expected to strengthen postal operations and enhance service delivery, thereby supporting better national planning and emergency response logistics. The approval represents a significant step towards building an enabling environment for a modern, inclusive, and globally competitive digital economy in Nigeria, addressing the challenges posed by the current inadequate addressing system.
