Deputy Comptroller Timothy Jonah Responds to Lagos Fire

On Monday, a fire erupted at the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Western Marine Command office located in Apapa, Lagos, resulting in significant property damage estimated in millions of Naira. The incident began around 10:23 a.m. due to an electrical surge in the conference room and quickly spread to other areas of the building.

Officers on duty attempted to control the fire until the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service arrived at approximately 10:45 a.m. Timothy Jonah, the Deputy Comptroller of Customs who had just taken over the command, described the situation as unfortunate, stating, “I just resumed duty to take over, only to witness this fire outbreak.” He indicated that every challenge presents an opportunity to enhance operations and announced plans to establish a committee to investigate the fire's cause.

Jonah praised the quick actions of the personnel and the collaboration with the fire service, emphasizing that measures would be implemented to improve safety protocols and prevent future incidents.
