Nigeria Commissions New Power Infrastructure in Lagos

On [date not specified], the Federal Government of Nigeria, through the Honourable Minister of Power, Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, commissioned two significant electricity transmission projects in Lagos State, representing a commitment to modernizing Nigeria's power infrastructure. The key project is the new 2×60MVA, 132/33kV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) located on Apapa Road, which replaces an aging substation from 1985.

This facility enhances bulk power availability by approximately 96 megawatts and is equipped with advanced technologies including Substation Automation Systems (SAS) and SCADA infrastructure. The project was executed through Japan's Official Development Assistance (ODA) with support from Toyota Tsusho Corporation and Takaoka Engineering Company Limited, supervised by Yachiyo Engineering Company Limited, and backed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Minister Tegbe emphasized the importance of electricity in achieving President Tinubu's goal of transforming Nigeria into a one trillion-dollar economy. The project was dedicated to the people of Lagos, with special recognition given to Governor Babajide Sanwoolu for his support.
