Federal Workers Demand N300,000 Minimum Wage Increase

Federal workers in Nigeria have renewed their demand for a significant salary increase, requesting President Bola Tinubu and the National Assembly to raise the minimum wage for federal civil servants from N70,000 to N300,000. This demand was articulated in a letter dated September 2, 2026, signed by Andrew Emelieze, National Coordinator, and Ogundele Ayodele, General Secretary of the Federal Workers Forum (FWF).

The forum argues that the current salary structure does not reflect the economic realities faced by workers and their families. They propose that the lowest-paid federal workers receive N300,000 monthly, while Grade Level 17 officers earn up to N1.5 million.

The FWF also highlighted that the N70,000 minimum wage, agreed upon in July 2024, has not been fully implemented, leading to insufficient salary adjustments and allowances. The forum emphasized the urgent need for a wage review, citing rising living costs and the inadequacy of the current wage to meet basic family obligations.
