Fela Anikulapo Kuti Inducted into Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

Fela Anikulapo Kuti, the Nigerian afrobeat pioneer, has been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, marking him as the first African artist to receive this honor. He was recognized in the "influential" category alongside notable figures such as Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Gram Parsons, and Celia Cruz.

Fela's music is celebrated for its unique sound that blends West African rhythms with elements of funk and jazz, significantly shaping the development of afrobeat and influencing musicians globally. Earlier, he received a posthumous Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.

The 2026 induction ceremony will also honor artists like Sade Adu, Wu-Tang Clan, Luther Vandross, and Phil Collins across various performance categories. The announcement of Fela's induction follows a vote by 1,200 artists, historians, and industry professionals, with the ceremony scheduled for November 14 at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.
