FG Approves 50% Train Fare Cut for Christmas and New Year Travel

The Federal Government of Nigeria has approved a 50% reduction in train fares nationwide for Christmas and New Year celebrations. The initiative, announced by Kayode Opeifa, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC), aims to make travel more affordable during the festive period.

The discounted rail services will run from December 23 to January 4, 2026, with high passenger turnout already observed along major rail corridors. This move aligns with President Bola Tinubu's agenda to reduce transport costs and promote inclusive mobility.

Passengers are encouraged to book tickets online for standard gauge routes and directly at railway stations for narrow gauge services.
