FG Approves New Service Scheme for NiMet Staff

The Federal Government of Nigeria approved a reviewed Scheme of Service for the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) on July 9, 2026. This approval marks a significant advancement in the agency's efforts to empower its workforce and enhance its operational capabilities.

The review aims to align NiMet's service scheme with current developments in the federal public service, addressing identified deficiencies and strengthening career progression opportunities for staff. The new structure accommodates junior and intermediate professional categories, ensuring it reflects the agency's specialized mandate.

The implementation of this scheme is to be strictly adhered to, following existing public service rules and guidelines. Additionally, a new unified salary structure was approved, effective June 1, 2026, which is expected to improve the remuneration framework for NiMet personnel.
