Enenche Urges Census to Clarify Nigeria's Religious Demographics

Dr. Paul Enenche, the Senior Pastor of Dunamis International Gospel Centre (DIGC), called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to conduct a credible national census to accurately determine the country's religious composition. This appeal was made during a sermon at the church's headquarters in Abuja on Sunday, following claims by Islamic cleric Sheikh Yahya Jingir that Muslims outnumber Christians in Nigeria.

Jingir made this assertion at a campaign event in Kano State supporting Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, where he also advocated for Muslim-Muslim tickets in future elections. Enenche questioned the reluctance of those claiming numerical superiority to support a census that could verify these claims.

He emphasized the importance of allowing Nigerians to declare their religious affiliations, suggesting that the results could challenge existing assumptions about religious demographics. Enenche also warned against underestimating Christians in Nigeria and criticized those he accused of contributing to national instability, highlighting the ongoing absence of a national population census since 2006.
