FG Requests IATA to Change Osubi Airport Code

The Federal Government of Nigeria has initiated a request to the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to change the three-letter code for Osubi Airport in Delta State from QRW. Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, articulated this request in a letter to IATA Area Manager for West and Central Africa, Samuel Fatokun.

The aim is to secure a code that accurately represents the airport's official name and geographical location, as the current code is associated with the broader Warri identity, which can create confusion for travelers. Osubi Airport, located in Osubi town near Warri, is often referred to as "Warri Airport" despite its official designation.

Keyamo suggested alternative codes such as OSU, OSB, SUB, and QSB, acknowledging that the final decision rests with IATA's coding procedures. Additionally, airlines have been directed to ensure that all passenger-facing documents reflect the airport's proper designation as Osubi, Delta State, to eliminate ambiguity.
