Keyamo Requests IATA Review of Osubi Airport Code

Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has formally requested the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to review the three-letter location code “QRW” assigned to Osubi Airport in Delta State. Keyamo argues that the current designation does not accurately reflect the airport's official name or geographical location.

In a letter to IATA’s Area Manager for West and Central Africa, Dr. Samuel Fatokun, he proposed alternatives such as OSU, OSB, SUB, and QSB. Osubi Airport, which has the ICAO four-letter location indicator DNSU, is located in Osubi town near Warri and is often informally referred to as “Warri Airport.” Keyamo emphasized that the continued use of QRW could lead to confusion among passengers and stakeholders.

He also directed airlines and relevant agencies, including the NCAA, FAAN, and NAMA, to ensure that Osubi is correctly identified in all operational documents. Keyamo clarified that this initiative aims to enhance the airport's identity without undermining its role in the Warri metropolitan area.
