FG Launches 1MW Solar Project at Bayero University Kano

The Federal Government has commenced a 1MW solar project at Bayero University Kano, as disclosed by Mustapha Abdullahi, Director General of Gener Energi, during a groundbreaking ceremony. This project is the first of its kind, featuring a hybrid system equipped with advanced technology capable of generating electricity even under partial shade and dusty conditions.

The system will include smart monitoring mechanisms that allow users to track performance and manage power usage remotely via mobile devices and computers. This initiative follows a comprehensive energy audit and represents the pilot phase of a plan to expand capacity by an additional 4-5MW.

The project is part of a broader national renewable energy drive, which has already deployed 150MW across 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Abdullahi assured that the university will manage the project funds securely, with contractors set to commence full mobilization on-site.

The project aims to significantly improve power supply to classrooms and offices, enhancing teaching, learning, and research activities.
