FG Reaffirms Commitment to Empower Small-Holder Farmers

The Federal Government of Nigeria, through the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA), has reiterated its commitment to empowering small-holder farmers. This was articulated by Assoc.

Prof. Badamasi Lawal, who represented the agency during an event in Jigawa State.

The event was part of the Renewed Hope initiative and focused on the Government Enterprise Empowerment Programme (GEEP) and the FarmerMoni media sensitization program. Lawal emphasized the importance of strengthening the agricultural value chain and promoting financial inclusion for small-holder farmers.

He clarified that the FarmerMoni initiative is a cornerstone of government support, which aims to expand production and improve food security. The program provides loans rather than grants, with a flexible repayment structure aligned with farming cycles, allowing for a moratorium of 6 to 9 months depending on the agricultural activities.

Beneficiaries are expected to invest the funds directly into agricultural enterprises, including crop production and livestock.
