UBEC Sets November 2026 Deadline for Education Reforms

The Federal Government has set a deadline of November 15, 2026, for states to demonstrate readiness in implementing education reforms, which is crucial for accessing the first round of disbursements. This announcement was made by UBEC Executive Secretary, Dr Aisha Garba, during the Result Area 1 Thematic Regional Workshop held in Kano.

Represented by Abdullahi Jarma, the Director in charge of North East, Dr Garba described the workshop as pivotal in Nigeria's efforts to strengthen foundational learning. She introduced the Structured Pedagogy Package (SPP) as a transformative tool for classrooms, emphasizing the need for every Nigerian child to read, write, and count confidently.

The initiative, supported by the World Bank, aims to enhance educational systems and capacity through improved teacher training and learning evaluations. Mr Olumayowa Aleshin, the Programme Manager, noted that the reform is part of the Human Capital Opportunities for Prosperity and Equality (HOPE EDU) initiative, which will be implemented in three phases across all six geopolitical zones.
