FG and ILO Collaborate to Enhance Labor Governance in Nigeria

The Federal Government of Nigeria has announced a partnership with the International Labour Organization (ILO) to improve labor governance in the country. Mr.

Salihu Usman, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, made this announcement during a coordination meeting with ILO officials in Abuja. The ILO, established in 1919, focuses on promoting social justice and human labor rights.

The collaboration aims to advance decent work, enhance occupational safety and health, promote social dialogue, and strengthen labor administration. Usman acknowledged the challenges facing Nigeria's labor sector, including rising youth unemployment, skill shortages, and child labor.

He emphasized the need for a strong institutional framework and coherent policies to address these issues. Vanessa Phala, the ILO Country Director, reaffirmed the organization's commitment to supporting Nigeria's labor policies and aligning them with the government's priorities under President Bola Tinubu's leadership.

The partnership will also provide technical assistance and capacity-building programs to address emerging labor challenges and protect vulnerable workers.
