Nigeria's Government Launches Digital Addressing System Initiative

The Federal Government of Nigeria has initiated the development of a modern, digitized national addressing system, with the National Addressing Council (NAC) ratifying a preliminary framework for implementation across key public institutions. This decision was made during a meeting chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima in Abuja on a Monday, as reported by Stanley Nkwocha, Senior Special Assistant to the VP on Media and Communications.

The Federal Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation will act as the secretariat for the Council, overseeing the coordination and collaboration among participating agencies. Vice President Shettima stated that this initiative aligns with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, aiming to create an addressing system that enhances economic activity, public service delivery, security, and national planning.

He noted the critical role of a functional addressing system in connecting citizens, businesses, and government institutions. The proposed digital framework is expected to integrate with identity management systems and other digital public infrastructures.
