Nigeria and Israel to Strengthen Ties in Key Sectors

On June 2, 2026, Sen. George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, disclosed the Federal Government of Nigeria's intention to strengthen bilateral relations with Israel, particularly in agriculture, security, education, health, and technology.

This announcement came during a meeting with Israeli Ambassador to Nigeria, Michael Freeman, in Abuja. Akume highlighted Nigeria's vast agricultural land, large population, and abundant natural resources, noting that with the right partnerships, Nigeria could become a major global player in food production and technology.

He commended Israel's achievements in transforming desert areas into productive agricultural land through advanced irrigation systems and innovative farming techniques. Ambassador Freeman expressed Israel's readiness to partner with Nigeria to develop its agricultural sector and boost food production.

He also noted the shared security challenges both nations face, particularly concerning terrorism, and emphasized the need for collaboration in areas such as troop training and cybersecurity.
