Nigeria's Trans-Sahara Road Project Reaches 45% Completion

The Trans-Sahara Road Project in Nigeria has achieved 45% completion, as reported by Minister Moses Nwite Umahi during an inspection of the Calabar-Ebonyi-Benue-Nasarawa-Abuja highway project. The project is part of the Federal Government's strategic infrastructure initiatives designed to enhance economic opportunities, improve security, and strengthen inter-state connectivity in the Southeast.

The first section spans approximately 125.5 kilometers, starting from the Ndibe Beach axis and passing through various communities, including Akpoha, Abomege, Amudo, and Onueke, as well as parts of Ezza North and Ebonyi Local Government Areas. Umahi noted that certain sections are being dualized to support economic growth and urban development, with special attention given to an 8.9-kilometer stretch around Afikpo and a two-kilometer section at Abomege.

Section Two extends into Benue and other states, covering about 173.6 kilometers with a contract value of approximately ₦683 billion, of which 30% has already been paid. The project is expected to facilitate faster movement of goods and improve security through the installation of CCTV surveillance and solar-powered lighting.

Infiouest International, the contractor, has created over 2,000 jobs in the first section.
