Umahi Directs Design Review for Trans-Sahara Superhighway

On Saturday, Senator David Umahi, the Minister of Works, instructed a review of the design for Section Two of the Trans-Sahara Superhighway to reduce the demolition of buildings and properties along the route. During an inspection of the project, Umahi reassured local communities that the Federal Government would protect their properties while executing the road construction.

He emphasized that the project team should avoid structures whenever possible and that any affected properties and crops would be assessed for compensation. The highway, covering approximately 173.4 kilometers, aims to enhance transportation, agricultural movement, and commerce in the region.

Engr. Akelapa Edra, the design consultant, confirmed that the review aligns with the minister's directives, including converting some culverts to bridges to lessen community impact. HRH Eze Idenyi Agbo, a traditional ruler in Benue State, praised the government's efforts, particularly for preserving his palace, while Chief Patrick Agbo highlighted the road's potential to transform local economic activities.
