FG Trains 700 Women Farmers in Tomato and Pepper Production

The federal government of Nigeria has extended its Green Hope Project to Kwara state, initiating a three-day intensive training program aimed at equipping over 700 women with modern skills in tomato and pepper production. This project, which originally commenced in Odogbolu, Ogun state, targets a total of 5,000 women across 38 locations in Nigeria.

The initiative includes the provision of farm inputs, technical assistance, and financial support to enhance the beneficiaries' capacity for modern vegetable production. The training is organized by the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) at the Agricultural and Rural Management Training Institute (ARMTI) in Ilorin, Kwara state.

The beneficiaries were selected from horticulture clusters in various areas including Iponrin, Tsaragi, Asa, Oke Onigbin, Ijara Isin, Esie, Ilale, and Moro. Cornelius Olusegun Adebayo, the executive secretary and chief executive officer of NALDA, stated that the initiative is part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims to achieve food security, create sustainable livelihoods, and position agriculture as a key driver of economic growth.
