FG Urges States to Implement Anti-Corruption Strategies

The Federal Government has called on the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to develop and implement homegrown anti-corruption strategies, emphasizing the importance of subnational action for enhancing transparency and accountability. This appeal was made during a three-day workshop on the Plateau State Integrity and Accountability Strategy (PLASIAS) in Jos, Plateau State.

The workshop was inaugurated by Mrs. Victoria Ojogbane, Head of the National Anti-Corruption Secretariat, representing Attorney General Lateef Fagbemi, SAN. Ojogbane noted that only seven states have begun implementing anti-corruption strategies, with Plateau State being one of them.

She highlighted that Plateau has prepared an action plan for validation on August 28, 2026. The national framework for anti-corruption is based on five pillars: prevention, public engagement, ethical reorientation, enforcement, and recovery of corrupt proceeds.

Ojogbane linked corruption to poor public service delivery and commended Governor Caleb Mutfwang for his commitment to the strategy. Prof. Ada Chidi Igbokwe, Lead Consultant for ROLAC, stated that the workshop aims to provide practical tools for implementing PLASIAS.
