Fire Destroys Five Shops in Ilorin, Kwara State

On Sunday, an inferno occurred at Ita-Amodu, Niger Junction, Ilorin, Kwara State, destroying five shops and damaging part of a storey building that included three-bedroom flats and ten shops. The Kwara State Fire Service, represented by Public Relations Officer Hassan Adekunle, reported that the fire started around 1:36 pm, fueled by highly combustible materials such as mattresses and sofa materials stored in the affected shops.

The first fire appliance arrived to find the blaze fully developed, necessitating the deployment of a second appliance to assist in firefighting efforts. The fire was brought under control by 2:05 pm, thanks to the collaboration between the Kwara State Fire Service and personnel from the Federal Fire Service.

Chief Fire Officer Alabi Muhammed praised the firefighters for their swift response and effective teamwork, which prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent properties. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and the fire service urged business owners dealing with combustible materials to prioritize fire safety measures.
