Fire Breaks Out at Anambra Federal Secretariat Complex

On Tuesday, a fire erupted at the Federal Secretariat Complex in Awka, Anambra State, affecting the building housing the Pharmaceutical Council of Nigeria and an adjacent pharmaceutical company. The fire began around 3 PM, prompting staff to evacuate as thick smoke filled the area.

Anthony Obiorah, a staff member of the National Orientation Agency, reported that the alarm was raised by a colleague on the second floor. The Anambra State Fire Service, led by Fire Chief Chukwudi Chiketa, responded swiftly, managing to control the fire and prevent it from spreading to other offices.

The fire destroyed office equipment, documents, and files, but some items were salvaged. Maku Olatunde, the Anambra State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, confirmed that preliminary findings suggest a power surge as a potential cause.

The incident resulted in the preservation of property valued at over N200 billion. Investigations are ongoing, and normalcy has been restored at the complex.
