Firefighters Prevent Major Disaster from Petrol Tanker Crash

On Monday at approximately 6:02 a.m., a significant incident occurred at YTK Filling Station in the Apata area of Eyenkorin, Ilorin, Kwara State, when a 45,000-litre petrol tanker, registered as ARP 51 XB, crashed. The driver reportedly lost control while repositioning the vehicle, causing it to ram into the station's perimeter fence and detach the compartment carrying Premium Motor Spirit (petrol).

Hassan Adekunle, spokesman for the Kwara State Fire Service, reported that firefighters quickly secured the area and initiated cooling and dampening operations to prevent ignition of the highly flammable product. Their swift actions ensured that the fuel did not ignite, and the spilled petrol was safely siphoned into another tanker under the supervision of the fire service.

Chief Fire Officer Alabi Muhammed commended the emergency responders for their professionalism, emphasizing the importance of adhering to safety procedures in the transportation and handling of petroleum products to prevent such incidents.
